We met Kathy from South Asia and were very touched by her story and passion to serve God in a country that is closed to the gospel message.
Kathy shared her story in our network of Life Groups (LGs) via Zoom meetings during the COVID lockdowns in 2020. As she shared her personal story, we were amazed at how God had paved the way for her as a widow and as a single mum to reach out through education and community programs. After hearing her story, we made a commitment to support Kathy’s work and adopting her as our World Impact field partner. From the Zoom meetings, it was incredible to witness the generosity of the LG members who gave financially and together raised a phenomenal amount! As a result, Kathy was able to provide basic food and supplies to more than 100 families affected by the pandemic.
This year, we discussed how we would continue to impact and influence the world as a LG. This brainstorming quickly snowballed into action. A LG member was going to participate in a half marathon as part of his running passion. As a group, we thought it would be a good idea to combine it with a World Impact fundraiser with the theme “A dollar per km”, making giving easier from outside and within the Life group. Flyers were promptly created and sent to family and friends to rally support. Our Prof Peter would be running with pleasure and purpose!
In two weeks, the last-minute teamwork raised a significant amount far beyond our expectations. The LG “runner” completed the half marathon in 2 hours – an outstanding result beating his own personal best time. The motivation, the focus for the running together with the LG encouragement had inspired him to run with added vigour. Our faith and expectations were limited but God demonstrated His miraculous provision. Partnership through World Impact to make positive changes in South Asia have shifted our own mindsets. We are in awe of what God has done even as we participate in global mission during these challenging times.
So, Power on, partners!
We will show mercy to the poor and not miss an opportunity to do acts of kindness for others, for these are the true sacrifices that delight God’s heart. – Hebrews 13:16
